Discovering what they told you was wrong.

It's easy to pick up the wrong ideas about life and relationships. Our culture tells us out there is "the one" - the person who will complete us. For many, that leads to inevitable disappointment.

There was a shocking moment in my life when I found myself thinking:

I followed what they said was the right path – but it’s taken me somewhere I don’t want to be.

When we are young we are like sponges, absorbing ideas, that appear to make sense. Lots of people seem to be asserting them without question – so we assume they must be right. They become embedded in our thinking and it takes a lot of evidence to the contrary before we stop and ask: Did I got the wrong end of the stick?

As Kierkegaard wrote:

“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.”…
